T
here are two spiritual dangers in not owning a farm. One is the danger of supposing that breakfast comes from the grocery, and the other that heat comes from the furnace.

Steelhead Fishing Spring 2010

Tried my luck on the Lake Ontario Tribs before the April 1st trout opener. Fished Sterling Creek a few times, Allens and Irondequoit, and Red Creek. Had the best luck on Sterling.

Spring Trolling

Got a chance to get out on the lake to fish the northern end. We launched from Cayuga State Park. Trolled from the mouth of Canoga Creek south to Garnsey's Cove and back...about a five hour tour.

To date, the Brown trout I caught is the "furthest north" Salmonid I have landed in the lake proper. We were directly out from Red Jacket Yacht Club, about 200 yards from shore, in water about 39-40 degrees F.

Many pickerel were caught, some large, and one large northern pike. It was a great fishing outing.

Canoga Creek Stocked!!

Recently the newly reinvigorated Finger Lakes Chapter of Trout Unlimited decided to do an experimental stocking of the lovely spring creek called Canoga. Needless to say, the Canoga Creek Farm and Conservancy has been "encouraging" this action for some time now. What can I say, membership to the chapter is inexpensive and a good investment.

So, we have 200 yearling Brown trout (roughly 6 inchers) and 20 two year old brown trout (roughly 14 inchers) newly in the neighborhood. That oughta' keep me busy for awhile.
