Fall round up time... some thoughts on cattle

"Moving cattle is a simple exercise in puttin' yourself where you don't want them to go. I know that and the horse knows that. As for the cow, previous experience with branding irons and vet needles teels her not much good can come from us gettin' too close. There are those who would say that cows are a stupid lot. They'd be wrong. Cows simply bear a single-minded focus on what they want and are not terribly tolerant of of those who wish to interfere. Actually sounds like some people I know, but the difference is, the cow is at least honest about it. People will lie to you and tell you they are going one way when they're actually going the other. A cow on the other hand will never lie. Never did meet a dishonest cow."

All in all, I'd rather be around cows, I'd note, than most folks.
